There are many reasons to enjoy a magical festive season in the Alps, from a visit to Le Château du Père Noël to a Trapper’s Teepee. But a major development for this winter is the new Le Valléen gondola lift in St Gervais, which is forecast to reduce CO2 emissions in the area by up to 15%.
Opened this year, the lift connects Fayet train station (which is served by TGV and TER train services) to the centre of St Gervais.
The lift takes just five minutes – twice as fast as by car – and is predicted to remove 15,000 cars per year from the town centre. As well as new transport options, the French Alps resorts also continue to add new entertainments and facilities to welcome guests, particularly over the festive season, which can be discovered from an OVO Network chalet.
Chris Thompson, director of OVO Network, says: “We’ve been expanding our range of properties in St Gervais over the last couple of years and now have some fabulous properties such as Chalet Woodman, which is very popular with guests, and Chalet Mussol – new for this year. The addition of Le Valléen will add to St Gervais’ appeal year-round, and we believe a growing number of British holidaymakers will choose to discover it for themselves.”
Seven nights self-catering rental this Christmas starts from €1990 at the charming Grand Mazot La Chandelle near St Gervais. New to OVO Network for this winter, the mazot sleeps up to four guests.
Chalet Le Grenier à Neige in La Giettaz (between Megeve and La Clusaz) has 7 nights rental over the Christmas week at €16,190. It sleeps up to 12 guests (10 adults) and is ski in/ski out, with facilities including a sauna, hot tub, home cinema, play room and electric car charger.
