Legendary ski instructor Ron LeMaster dies after collision

The North American snow sports industry is mourning the death of a ski coach and instructor who wrote several books that became ‘bibles’ for ski instructors.

Ron LeMaster, (pictured) aged 72, was skiing at Eldora Mountain Resort on Tuesday, 30 November, when he was involved in a collision with a snowboarder and died at the scene. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing. read more

First National Snow Show attracts almost 10,000 visitors

The first ever National Snow Show at the NEC Birmingham held over the weekend of 23 & 24 October attracted almost 10,000 visitors and 150 exhibitors.

Californian resorts use snow cannons to help fight huge forest fire

Three Californian ski resorts in the path of a devastating forest fire appear to have escaped the worst of the dramatic blaze although some equipment and outbuildings have been fire damaged.

The Caldor fire, which began in mid-August, covered more than 200,000 acres and strong winds drove it towards the major resort-town of South Lake Tahoe located on the California/Nevada border. It is located directly below Heavenly Mountain Resort and a full evacuation was ordered when smoke made it difficult for inhabitants to breathe. read more

Warren Smith Ski Academy GAP Snowsports Instructor courses set to go ahead this season in Verbier

The Warren Smith Ski Academy has launched its new GAP ski program for the 2021-22 winter season, based in Verbier, Switzerland, with two start dates in early December and February.

Students will aim to qualify as IASI (Irish Association of Snowsports Instructors) Level 1 & 2 ski instructors, providing them with a qualification that is recognised in a number of countries around the world. read more
