Les 2 Alpes claims it will be the first French resort to open its glacier for summer skiing this year. The slopes can be used from 28 May, the earliest the Isère ski area has ever opened its glacier.
Les 2 Alpes also claims it has Europe’s largest skiable glacier and SATA, the lift company, has been carrying out some work in the snowpark.
A boardercross has been built for summer training and to host international competitions. A smaller boardercross has also been built for families, along with a green slope between the boardercross and the snowpark.
The ice cave visitor attraction on the glacier, which starts at 3,200m, has been moved to 3,400m and is now next to the skywalk (Le Belvédère des Écrins) and an orienteering table. This area is accessible to pedestrians as well as skiers and snowboarders.
As well as summer skiing and snowboarding, Les 2 Alpes is a mecca for mountain bikers who this year will find a redesigned bike park with around 100km of tracks for downhill, freeride, freestyle, enduro and e-biking circuits. It needed to be redesigned in order to make it more pleasant to ride but also easier to look after.
Base Camp Lodge is a new trendy hostel that opened in December 2021 with 30 bedrooms: double/twin rooms, family suites and dormitories for up to 10 guests. It also has a restaurant with vegan and vegetarian options, a fitness room, a sauna and a ski room.
Costs are from €95 per room for two people per night, and from €35 per person per night in a dormitory.
There will be the usual full calendar of summer events in Les 2 Alpes including three new ones.
For the first time this summer, the legendary downhill mountain biking event, The Mountain of Hell, (24 – 26 June 2022) will include a race for children aged from 9 to 14.
Le Defi de la Muzelle (17–20 August 2022) is a new challenge for trail runners! It is a four-day race with four stages.
From 1-5 September 2022, 600 people can take part in an Alpine Fitness Camp organised by Billy Billingham.
