Day five of the English Alpine Ski Championships 2017 saw the action continue on the sunny slopes of Bormio with a NJR Giant Slalom and an Under 16/14 Super G.

In the FIS Giant Slalom on the Stella Alpina piste, conditions were perfect for two GS runs for the Under 21 and Under 18 racers.

Quotes from the NJR Giant Slalom winners:

Xanax Online Visa Robert Poth, 1st U21 Men’s NJR GS:

“First run was not bad and I had some good skiing in there. There was a bit of scrappy skiing at the top, but overall I was pretty happy with it. Plus I had made it into the top 30 for the flip, which put me in a really good position for the second run. Then I was really pleased with the second run and it moved me up a few places, and pulled me up to first Brit, so I am very happy.

The way GS is going so far this season I will definitely take that performance, I really wasn’t expecting to come first.”

Darcie Mead – 1st U21 Ladies NJR GS:

“First run was really not very good and I was in a pretty bad position, maybe three or four tenths behind Honor (Clissold). So second run I really just wanted to go out all or nothing; I didn’t want to just finish the race and then be disappointed with the time, so I gave it everything I had. I really didn’t expect to be top Brit and third overall. It felt horrible the whole way down, constantly turny and not letting up, but I’m thrilled with the result of course.”

https://oevenezolano.org/2024/08/8ukva912kd Nathan Breese – 1st U18 Men’s NJR GS:

“I felt like a skied pretty well today overall. I got quite late on the first run to be honest, pretty much all the way down, but it never felt like I lost much of my speed. I managed to hang on there and it was a decent time, and then I don’t feel like I could have skied the second run much better. The first run it didn’t feel like the course was holding up too well, but then the second was really smooth actually.”

Megan Riley – 1st U18 Ladies NJR GS:

“My first run wasn’t great. It was ok at best but I didn’t attack it enough, and I improved a bit for the second run. The second run was really turny and I was late the whole way down! I only just managed to hold on, but I’m happy with the result. I think you’ve got to be critical of yourself if you want to get better. Of course I’m happy with how the week has gone and everything, but to make improvements you’ve got to analyse yourself.”

The Under 16 boys race was an exciting affair with Glasgow Ski Racing’s Owen Vinter proving he is the man to beat at the moment, clocking an impressive time of 45.91, over two seconds faster than his closest opponent. Behind him was New Zealand athlete Will Cashmore in overall second and then Tom Hudson from BSA claimed overall third place, second fastest Brit and the title of English Under 16 Boys Super G Champion. Third fastest Brit and fourth overall was Charlie Leach.

In the girls Under 16 Super G, Sarah Woodward from Ambition put in an impressive performance to take the English Under 16 Girls Super G title, finishing two seconds ahead of Charlotte Tapsell from Evolution who was second. Third place went to Arabella Ng from Aiglon who was just 0.01 ahead of Tapsell.  Unfortunately Woodward’s close rival Daisi Daniel skied out mid-way down the course.

For the Under 14 boys, it was another podium for speedy Jack Upton from Ambition Racing who won in a time of 49.05 to become English Under 14 Boys Super G Champion. Behind him was Callum Ross who, despite starting way down the start list, took second spot in a time of 49.31. Third place went to Tom Hudson from BSA.

In the Under 14 girls race, the podium went to form again, with Sophie Foster from Ambition putting in an excellent run from bib 6 to take the win and English Under 14 Girls Super G title Behind her by over 2 seconds was Giselle Gorringe from Dragons and in third was Isla Ward from Glasgow Ski Racing.

“I just let loose today in the Super G, it went really well for me. I always look forward to the Super G and always really enjoy it. It is probably my favourite disicpline. I love the speed events. I came here to win, so I am really glad I have put the results in.”

“It was a great Super G course, fast and smooth and I was really pleased with my result. It didn’t feel that clean, but I was obviously still fast. My week has just got better and better after my mistake in Slalom. And it has been great that the sun has shone everyday and the courses have been in such good condition.”

“I am really pleased with the Super G today. It was a good smooth course and I just love the speed of Super G so I really enjoyed it. My goal for the race was to get on the podium, so to win is even better!”

Sophie Foster – 1st U14 Super G:

“I am so happy with my Super G. I just treated it like a training run and bombed it! Last year I crashed at the first gate, so I was really trying not to do the same thing again. I was thinking about what we had discussed in training and on the course inspection, and just tried to keep my concentration.”
