Some eagle-eyed readers spotted something was not quite right in a story on the UK Slope news page in the latest issue of the Skier & Snowboarder magazine.
The story reported that the former Swansea Ski Slope had turned into a bit of an eyesore and plans were afoot to redevelop the site.
It was backed up by photos of the derelict slope and another from 1999 during its hey-day – except the historic picture wasn’t of Swansea, it was Pembrey!
The facility within Pembrey Country Park, one of five artificial ski slopes in Wales, is run by Carmarthenshire County Council. It contacted the Skier & Snowboarder and asked us to reassure its customers that despite the errant photo in the magazine, the slope is still thriving and will soon be open for business again once pandemic restrictions have been lifted.
In fact, the operators of the Pembrey Ski Centre have used the temporary closure during lockdown to carry out improvement works including the replacement of more than 400 Dendix mats. Plus, the lift and misting system have both had a full service.
The venue will soon offer even better facilities to customers. A full report on the improvements will appear in a future issue of the Skier & Snowboarder magazine.
