SERRE Chevalier, which lies in the largest ski area in the Southern French Alps, with 40 hectares of pistes set amidst larch forests, opens in December with three new attractions – writes Briony Key
Moving around the upper slopes will be quicker thanks to a new six-person, high-speed chairlift, Côte Chevalier, which will improve the link up with Monêtier
After skiing there’s the opportunity to try the new GoCryo Centre, created by osteopath Leo Meyer. The centre offers three-minute sessions in an electric chamber, between -80c and -100c. The treatment is described as ‘innovative, and highly effective’ for aching muscles.
There’s also a new four-star hotel, Le Monêtier, to stay at. The 21-room property is styled on a traditional mountain lodge, and has a well-being area and the Stabatio Restaurant offering home-made, seasonal specialities.
All rooms are south facing, with a balcony. The restaurant also has views of the Monêtier les Bains slopes and is open year round.
Skiing and snowboarding is available in the Serre Chevalier area on the 7 & 8 December and then the whole resort officially opens from 15 December 2018 to 22 April 2019 (Briançon site closes on 07 April 2019).
