https://polyploid.net/blog/?p=o2zma8fvq The final day of the English Alpine Ski Championships 2017 concluded with a busy day of racing in Bormio with a FIS GS and Under 14/16 Super G, culminating in the crowning of six overall English Alpine Champions.
In the men’s Under 18/21s competition, Robert Poth took the crown of overall English Alpine Champion after a consistent week of podiums, and in the ladies Under 18/21s competition Yasmin Cooper came away with the overall English Alpine Champion title. For the Under 16s, consistency was again the name of the game as Charlie Leach was crowned English Alpine Champion for the boys and the seemingly unbeatable Sarah Woodward was the girls Under 16 English Alpine Champion. For the Under 14s, the English Alpine Champion crowns went to Jack Upton and Sophie Foster who both dominated their age categories all week.

It was an exciting finish in the ladies race, with Jess Anderson just pipping Darcie Mead to the post over two runs to take the win in the Under 21 category and claim the Ladies English GS crown. The third fastest Brit was Honor Clissold who was just over a second behind Anderson and Mead. In the Under 18s, Hannah Loeffen-Gallagher stood on the podium again, taking the Ladies English Under 18 title, but finished second on the British podium behind Scotland’s Alannah Lawrie. Just behind was Yasmin Cooper in third.

Quotes from overall English Alpine Champions:
Robert Poth, Overall Men’s English Alpine Champion:
“I’m really pleased by become the overall English Champion, even though I was a bit surprised. It’s a first for me, I have never won it before, so it is great to get another title. My first run today wasn’t too bad at all. I was pretty happy with it and I’m happy I made the flip, but I’m not sure I took full advantage of the smooth conditions on my second run. I maybe could have gone a little bit harder, but I’m happy finishing as second Brit in this race and the whole week has been pretty good overall. This is the first time I’ve actually finished every race here; last year I only finished one race here! So it is definitely all there. I just think with a bit more training I’ll be getting better results in FIS races soon.”
Yasmin Cooper, Overall Ladies English Alpine Champion:
“I definitely would call this a successful week. I’m really happy with how I skied in most of the races; I could have skied better in some of the others, but it’s all a learning curve and I want to come back next year and be even better.
https://blog.extraface.com/2024/08/07/z0fe8uki I’ve been overall junior British Champion before, but this is a really exciting achievement as I wasn’t here last year and I used to look up to the people that won the overall English title. I wanted to be there on that podium when I was younger, and it’s great to finally do it.”

Over on the Stelvio piste, it was another Super G for the Under 14s/16s. In Under 16 boys race, Glasgow Ski Racing’s Owen Vinter again looked impressive to take the win ahead of Tom Hudson, who improved on his second-place finish yesterday to beat New Zealand athlete Will Cashmore down into third. In the girls Under 16 Super G, Sarah Woodward from Ambition stood on the top of the podium, clocking an unbeatable time once again. Behind Woodward was Arabella Ng from Aiglon and in third was Siena Horton from Ambition Racing, who improved on her performance from yesterday to stand on the podium.
https://eloquentgushing.com/3ek9qr2 For the Under 14 boys, it was yet another podium for the impressive Jack Upton from Ambition Racing. Behind him was Upton’s teammate Kaylan Huisman-Muro who improved on his third place from yesterday to take second. Third place went to Ted Slade from BSA. In the Under 14 girls race, the podium went to form again, with Sophie Foster from Ambition Racing claiming another win ahead of Giselle Gorringe from Dragons, and in third was Glesni Catlin who claimed her first podium of the Championships.
Quotes from overall Under 16/14 English Champions:

“I was hoping to get on the podium, but to claim the overall title is really special. My consistency has paid off and I have been really happy with my performances over the week. I haven’t always skied my best at the English Champs, so this has definitely been my best to date.”
https://www.completerehabsolutions.com/blog/6stpmld0m5 Sarah Woodward – Overall English Under 16 Girls Champion:
“It’s a great feeling to have won the Under 16 English title for the second year running. I feel like my training has paid off. I am really happy that I have skied these races the way I can do and have come out with the results and three podiums.”
https://foster2forever.com/2024/08/pkqtcl3p.html Jack Upton – Overall English Under 14 Boys Champion:
“It’s a great feeling to be crowned overall Champion. I am first year in my age group, so I wouldn’t necessarily expect to claim the title so I am really happy. I just tried to ski the best I could, so to win it means a lot.”
https://nedediciones.com/uncategorized/v82hkolclmc Sophie Foster – Overall English Under 14 Girls Champion
“It feels so good to have won the English title, it’s amazing! I was really happy with my Super G again today. It was a lot straighter and I nearly had a tumble at the start, so I was glad I didn’t go down. The steeper section was really fun and the course just flowed really well. I am really happy with my performances this week, it is even better than I expected”
