British snowboarder Mia Brookes has twice made history in Bakuriani, Georgia, becoming Britain’s youngest ever Freestyle World Champion in Freestyle Snowboard Slopestyle.

The 16-year-old from Cheshire (pictured) came into her second final run in silver medal position, but delivered a stunning performance which saw her land the first ever CAB 1440 double grab in a women’s snowboarding competition. That’s four full rotations. The incredible move scored her 91.38 to take a breathtaking World Championship Gold.

The second Top of the Mountain Spring Concert kicks off in Ischgl, Austria on 30 March 2023, with British singer-songwriter George Ezra making his debut on the legendary ‘Ischgl Stage’.
The 29-year-old’s repertoire includes well-known hits such as ‘Budapest’, ‘Shot Gun’, ‘Barcelona’ and ‘Blame It On Me’ as well as songs from his new album ‘Gold Rush Kid’.

The New Year race scene started off with British children’s races in Austria with Ambition Ski Racing academy run races at Hinterreit and The British Ski Academy Anglo Scottish Championships in Pila, Italy.

Flaine hosts British Schoolgirls Races
The British Schoolgirls Races (30 & 31 Jan 2023) returned to Flaine after a three-year absence for its 62nd event.

The competition, organised by the Ladies Ski Club, attracted 143 girls from 26 schools who competed over two days in excellent conditions in front of a large crowd of spectators including teachers, parents, coaches and a guest appearance by former British Racer and Olympian Chemmy Alcott.

The improvements to ski bindings means there has been a reduction in the number of skiers suffering broken legs although knee injuries remain a major risk. For snowboarders the difference in bindings means leg fractures are still prevalent.

What’s new in Aosta?
The five major ski areas in the Aosta Valley have all seen upgrades this season.
In Breuil-Cervinia a new six seater ‘Gran Somett’a chairlift with protective dome has been added in Valtournenche. In Cervinia itself a new slope –Number 34 – now connects the town of Cielo Alto at the start of the Bardoney lifts, plus there is a new covered treadmill at the Cretaz pitch. Spring 2023 sees the opening of the highest cable crossing of the Alps in constant view of The Matterhorn. The Matterhorn glacier paradise cableway – Testa Grigia – will whisk passengers in comfort from Zermatt to Breuil-Cervinia. The one-hour panoramic ride travels over 4000m in altitude and have the biggest cable car drop in Europe.

Abundant snowfalls means it is full speed ahead for Trentino
Trentino, situated in the heart of the Italian Alps in northern Italy, has had a great start to the season with all lifts and slopes open, thanks to dropping temperatures and abundant snowfall.
Known for its UNESCO Dolomites, Trentino offers 800 kilometres of slopes, most of which are located between Dolomiti Superski(350km) and Skirama Dolomiti-Adamello Brento (almost 400km), served by 227 fast lifts.
