Are you looking for a ski boot with a Cinderella fit? George Fisher can help
WHEN it comes to ski boots, comfort and performance are equally paramount. Yet, a common gripe among skiers is that ski boots can be dreadfully uncomfortable.
Aching arches, blackened toenails, numb toes and ankle agony have historically hampered many skiers’ ability to enjoy their time on the slopes. As with any realm of life: Where there lies a problem, there lies a solution.

Eddie could have been a footballer – but hung up his boots to concentrate on skiing
I STAYED in Canada for most of July because at the time of writing this column I am just about to take part in a stage show which is part of the Calgary Stampede, an annual 10-day rodeo.
The event can trace its roots back to 1886 but it now attracts more than one million people every year and claims to the ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’.

The Eagle goes busking in Austria
IF you happened to be in Salzburg recently you may have been surprised to see me busking in one of the city squares!
Fortunately, this is not because I have fallen on hard times. I was actually in the city doing some filming for the Austrian National Tourist Board and one of the things they asked me to do was pretend to be a busker with a cap to collect the money out in front of me.

Lost your skis? Just ring your Tile
by Amy Borrett
MOST skiers and snowboarders have experienced this scene. You stop for something to eat, or at your favourite apres ski bar as you come off the slopes, you plant your skis or snowboard outside and when you come out again another couple of hundred people have also dumped their skis or snowboards and you spend ages trying to find yours.

The night Eddie had to sleep in a barn
I HAD what I expect to be my last ski of the season recently in the Swiss resort of Zermatt after I was ‘won’ in an auction. A family bid for the chance to ski with me at a fundraising evening to help raise money for the British Ski Team, although I don’t know how much they paid – I wonder how much I’m worth?

Hollywood stars appear at Crans Montana film festival
by Amy Borrett
THE RECENT Les Rencontres du 7ème Art Lausanne Film Festival First Edition attracted a host of Hollywood celebrities and shone a spotlight on the Crans-Montana ski area in Switzerland.
And there was more good news this week when it was announced the ongoing dispute which had led to the indefinite closure of the ski lifts had been resolved for the time being. Day tickets are now on sale at a vastly reduced price, and Crans-Montana’s slopes will now stay open until 17 April.

Val Gardena welcomes the sunny season of mountain lunches
DID you know that virtually all the mountain restaurants in Val Gardena offer visitors waiter service?
The sight of skiers and snowboarders trying to find a table while balancing a tray of self-service food and drink is very rare in this Italian resort located in the heart of the Italian Dolomites and Christina Demetz, from the tourist office says: “It’s a remarkable feature of the Val Gardena slopes. All our wonderful mountain huts have table service, which we believe somehow reflects our philosophy of giving our guests the most relaxing and enjoyable experience possible.

‘Where did all the Winter Olympics money go?’ asks Eddie
I ONLY found time to watch a bit of the Winter Olympics but at least I got to see Lizzy Yarnold win her second gold medal and Laura Deas take the bronze in the Skeleton.
Does that make me one of those people who, according to a recent survey, has little interest in the Winter Olympics? I think this survey is a little misleading because, after all, the number of skiers and snowboarders in the UK is increasing.
