This winter season, ski and snowboard holiday provider Inghams Ski continued their partnership with young person’s charity Snow Camp. For the second year running, young people from Manchester, London, Birmingham and Glasgow completed a UK-based apprentice scheme with Snow Camp, before travelling to Val d’Isère ski resort in France with Inghams.
The partnerships aim is to support inner city young people in securing apprenticeships, internships, qualifications, and opportunities within the snow sports industry.
Joined by British Snowboard Olympian, Jamie Nicholls, who himself grew up in Bradford, far from snowy mountains, the group experienced life in resort with tour operator hosts from Inghams Ski. Without diversity and inclusion initiatives like this one, many young people would not have the access or confidence to broaden their horizons through snow sports.
In resort, the group got to meet two apprentices from the 2023 programme, Danni Hyman and Lamar JN Marie, who went on to complete a three-month internship in the Inghams Ski head office in the UK, before training to becoming chalet hosts for the current season in Tignes. They are gaining experience of working in the industry and a career progression they had never imagined, with plenty of mountain time in between.
Looking to broaden horizons and open doors for these young people, Inghams also provided the apprentices with a taste of ski season living, exposure to mountain-based career pathways, plus ski and snowboard lessons on the slopes. This second group of apprentices are now armed with new life skills and mountain experiences that have inspired them to seek further snow sport industry opportunities.
