National Governing Body, Snowsport Scotland, is to launch a new equality campaign in a bid to prove that snowsports is for everyone focusing on females, lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) and those living with a disability.
Dubbed #IAMSNOWSPORT the campaign will involve Snowsport Scotland hosting a number of different events with each one focusing on a different demographic group. The first equality event is set to be held on 28th November 2015 at Bearsden and will be aimed solely towards females.
The event will aim to introduce more females to snowsports, keep existing females taking part in snowsports and also to produce more female high performance athletes – all regardless of age and discipline.
The event will have a fun and social feel and will host taster ski and snowboard trials, improvement lessons, mental strength workshops along with various entertainment, sponsors and a BBQ lunch. Appearances from some of snowsports high profile athletes will also be made as a way of encouraging and inspiring the younger athletes to keep up the sport.
One of the biggest problems in all female sports is teenage drop out and this is something that Snowsport Scotland is eager to counter.
Snowsport Scotland will be scheduling a further calendar of events for the #IAMSNOWSPORT campaign to focus on the LGB community and those living with a disability.
Jane Campbell Morrison, CEO at Snowsport Scotland, said: “We know that females, people in the LGB community and those living with a disability still face certain barriers in sport and we want to break down those barriers and show that snowsports is for everyone.”
