Rupert Longsdon, the CEO and founder of Oxford Ski, has provided an update on skiing and snowboarding in popular destinations:
Switzerland – Most resorts are open but can vary based on the Canton area, but with key resorts including Zermatt and Verbier operating, there’s plenty of piste to please even the most avid skier. Whilst most restaurants are only able to offer a take-away service, hotel restaurants and catered chalets continue to deliver first class experiences to guests staying with them.
France – Lifts currently remain closed, although it is understood this will be reviewed again by the 20 January in the hope of reopening lifts shortly thereafter. Some resorts are open to local visitors who can participate in other on snow activities
Austria – Currently resorts are closed to international guests with accommodation and restaurants also closed. Local access only. 24 January is the expected date for further news.
Italy – The reopening of ski resorts has been postponed until later this month. 18 January is the date currently pencilled as a possible date.
Canada – With some of the best skiing and snowboarding conditions in the world, thanks to La Nina which brought a deluge of snow, Canada (specifically Whistler) is teasing us right now, but access is highly restricted to overseas guests and a 14-day quarantine is in place for all arrivals.
USA – Ski resorts are operating mostly ‘as normal’ however non-domestic access is currently Iran, European Schengen area, UK, Rep. of Ireland, Brazil.
A survey by Oxford Ski found that 76% of respondents want to go travelling as soon as they’re allowed.
