The Ikon Pass explained – perks and discounts have grown since launch in 2018

With many different ski passes now on offer, skiers and snowboarders could be confused over which one is best, or most cost effective, for them. Kristin Rust, VP Communications with the Alterra Mountain Company, provides some insights into the advantages of an Ikon Pass

Could you give us an overview of the Ikon Pass?

The Ikon Pass was launched by Alterra Mountain Company in January 2018 and included access to iconic ski destinations around the world including Steamboat, Deer Valley, Tremblant, Mammoth Mountain, Aspen Snowmass, Jackson Hole, Niseko United and many more.  Today, skiers and riders have access to 47 destinations worldwide, offering 126,807 snowy acres across the Americas, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. For winter 21/22, Ikon Pass expanded further into Europe with the addition of Dolomiti Superski in Italy and Kitzbühel in Austria joining Zermatt, Switzerland, offering pass holders access to up to 21 days in the Alps.

How many Ikon Pass products are available?

Ikon Pass offers three products for winter 21/22 with varied access and benefits.

Ikon Pass – Offers the most access and no blackout dates at 47 unique destinations worldwide
Ikon Base Pass – Offers 45 unique destinations worldwide, with limited blackout dates
Ikon Session Pass – Offers four days total at select destinations

What perks and discounts are offered to Ikon Pass holders?

Ikon Pass offers pass holders Friends & Family lift ticket discounts, plus discounts on accommodation, ski rentals, retail, and food and beverage at select destinations.  Ikon Pass First Tracks has been launched for winter 21/22 offering Ikon Pass holders early morning access to untouched snow before the slopes open to the public on selected dates throughout January, February and March 2022 at select resorts including Deer Valley Resort, Mammoth Mountain, Palisades Tahoe, Steamboat, Winter Park and Tremblant.

How best can skiers and riders use the Ikon Pass to their advantage?

To get the best value and most out of your next winter, my best advice is to purchase your Ikon Pass in the spring when the pass is at its lowest rate and offers renewal discounts and other benefits. Once you’ve committed to your next winter, then take your time to consider your next adventures to the Alps and North America.  To provide maximum flexibility, Ikon Pass holders may elect to defer their pass to the following season for any reason, should the pass not be used after purchase.

What’s new at Alterra Mountain Company’s resorts this season?

For winter 21/22, £154 million of transformational improvements have been committed at four U.S destinations – Steamboat in Colorado, Deer Valley Resort in Utah and Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe in California. This season, skiers and riders will experience phase 1 of the re-envisioning to the Steamboat base area including the transformation of Gondola Square, bringing new dining, après and retail offerings. Mountain improvements for winter 22/23 will include 650 new acres of terrain in Pioneer Ridge, expanding Steamboat’s trail map by nearly 20 percent and making it the second largest ski area in Colorado.

Where is the Ikon Pass on sale?
