With a recent investment of nearly €80 million, Slovenia’s ski resorts have undergone a spectacular makeover, beckoning snow enthusiasts with a compelling blend of transformative resort experiences, top-notch infrastructure, and an array of affordable offerings.

This significant investment will position Slovenia and its skiing as a state of the art experience for snow and winter sport lovers alike. With a 90% increase in Google searches (Google Trends) for Slovenia in the last year, it is clearly a country that is sparking interest for 2024 travel.

Slovenia’s €80 Million Investment  

Nine of Slovenia’s premier ski destinations (Krvavec, Vogel, Velika Planina, Cerkno, Golte, Rogla, Kope, Mariborsko Pohorje and Trije kralji) have benefited from substantial infrastructure enhancements. This winter season, visitors will have access to 11 new cable cars – comprising three six-seaters, six four-seaters, one cable car, and a circular cabin cable car, ensuring seamless access to the breathtaking slopes. 

Beyond traditional skiing, several of the resorts now offer a plethora of outdoor experiences, such as snow rafting, archery, bike parks, and a forest adventure challenge. This strategic investment aims to position alpine Slovenia as a year-round destination, expanding its allure beyond the winter months. 

Slovenia’s Unbeatable Value 

Slovenia stands out as one of the most budget-friendly skiing destinations in Europe, with ski packages available for less than €100 per night per person. Despite the low cost, the destination’s resorts are of the highest quality, and visitors certainly won’t feel like they’re missing out on anything.

Slovenia also offers an inclusive ski pass, which grants access to a multitude of different slopes with one pass, providing unbeatable value for money and choice. A standard six-day pass is available from €205 for adults – a six-day pass in France, Italy, Austria or Switzerland costs on average at least €303. 

Proximity Perfection: Multiple Resorts and a City Break 

One of the unique features that sets Slovenia apart is the close proximity of its ski resorts. Visitors can seamlessly traverse multiple resorts during a short break, making it an ideal destination for those seeking variety and adventure. Despite the smaller size of some resorts, they benefit from a comprehensive range of facilities. 

For those looking to experience both city and ski, finding a base in the capital of Ljubljana is the answer. The picturesque city is likely to be dusted in snow during the winter months, a winter wonderland for visitors exploring the Old Town, and it is a great time of year to take in the city’s beautiful architecture during this quieter period. The capital is located just an hour’s drive from two of Slovenia’s ski resorts, making it a great option for a combo ski and city break. 

Krvavec is located just 25km from Ljubljana and is a popular destination during both the summer and winter. This season, a new covered ski lift with heated seats awaits skiers in Zvoh. The ski centre offers 30km of ski slopes with various levels of difficulty, alongside a stunning view of the Ljubljana Basin. There is also the opportunity for night sledging and skiing on a “snow bike” for those seeking alternative thrills.

Another resort that’s very close to the capital is Kranjska Gora, arguably the most famous ski resort in Slovenia and frequently voted as one of the best in Europe. The resort attracts international crowds every year because of its World Cup slalom ski competitions in March. The resort has 18 different slopes, including special trails for ski cross. A nearby must-see when visiting Kranjska Gora is the legendary ski jumping hill Planica, where the first ski jump over 100m was achieved in 1936.
