A new 10-seat cable car in the Austrian resort of Axamer Lizum is now transporting skiers and snowboarders to the top of the mountain in just six minutes. Also new for this season are the kickers and rails installed at the newly designed Golden Roof Park near the Karleitenlift for experienced boarders and freestylers.
The Axamer Lizum area, which has twice been one the Winter Olympic venues, is a 30-minute drive from Innsbruck and offers 40km of beginner, intermediate and advanced runs.
At 2,340m with a north-facing location and advanced snow-making facilities the resort is open well into April making it an ideal destination for Easter or some end of season skiing and snowboarding. Easy travel links mean British visitors can hit the slopes within a few hours of leaving the UK.
Innsbruck Tourismus is also promoting the area as an ideal ski and city break. Direct flights to Innsbruck Airport – a short bus ride into the city – are available from major airports across the UK. A regular free ski bus links the city to Axamer Lizum, and the new Hoadlbahn 10-seat cable car then takes visitors from the bus straight to the top of the slopes.
Colette Verra, Markets and Media at Innsbruck Tourismus, said: “The proximity of Axamer Lizum to Innsbruck means skiers and snowboarders can be on the slopes in the day, and then head back to enjoy city life in the evening.
“Visitors can benefit from the free ski bus, and also take in the sights of Innsbruck and enjoy all the attractions of the city as part of their holiday with our Welcome Card, which also features guided hikes and other opportunities to enjoy the unique urban alpine environment in Innsbruck.”
The resort also boasts a panorama restaurant, Hoadl-Haus, which has the largest covered sun terrace in Austria offering views of Innsbruck and the surrounding mountains. As well as the option of staying in Innsbruck, Axamer Lizum has accommodation in resort.
