Val Gardena continues to bolster its legendary and historic attractions

New attractions and improvements await skiers and snowboarders visiting the Italian resort of Val Gardena this season. The area, which includes the villages of Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva, has access to 500 km of slopes.

For expert skiers, a black slope ‘La Ria’ now starts from the mountain station of the Dantercepies cable car and has a maximum incline of 52%: pure adrenaline for expert skiers.

‘Pilat’ the former off-piste downhill run stretching across a rocky forest from the Seiser Alm to Ortisei has been developed to become a spectacular downhill slope cutting through a forest, featuring plenty of bends and turns with unique views over the entirety of Val Gardena.

The Legendary 8 will once again be offering a diverse variety of slopes of different levels, and every slope has its own bit of history. Skiers and snowboarders can choose from 79 lift facilities and 175 km of slopes in Val Gardena with the ‘Legendary 8’ slopes alone delivering a total of 36 km of slopes with breathtaking views across the Dolomites mountains.

The Legendary 8 are: Saslong: the ‘Legendary slope’; Cir: the ‘Women’s slope’; Ciampinoi N. 3: the ‘Steepest slope’; Bravo: the ‘Romantic slope’; Falk: the ‘First slope’; Gardenissima: the ‘Sensational slope’; La Longia: the “Longest slope’; Pilat: the ‘New slope’ (opens in winter 2022). An App has also been developed which will allow users to collect point and receive a prize.

There are also several routes which visitors can explore including the popular Sellaronda, 26km of slopes which can be done clockwise or anticlockwise, the ‘Val Gardena Ronda’ circuit.

Alternatively make your make your way to Passo Sella which offers a breathtaking view over the Sassolungo, the Cinquedita, and the Marmolada, stretching all the way to the Monte Pana, or to the Alpe di Seceda in the Puez-Odle Nature Park, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Here you can admire the 360° view from a dedicated spot just above the Fermeda cable car station, before taking the ‘La Longia’ slope, the longest in South Tyrol at 10.5 km, and glide down through a canyon, past by the frozen waterfall and the renovated Costamula farmstead.
