A demonstration was organised yesterday (Monday 30 November) in Les 2 Alpes in an effort to get the French government to change its decision to close ski resorts in France during the festive period because of the covid pandemic.
A crowd of more than 300 people made up from tourist office and town hall representatives, restaurant, bar and shop owners, lift company workers gathered in Les 2 Alpes village. with banners saying ‘let us work’.
Les 2 Alpes, like many other ski resorts, has worked hard to put strict measures in place to keep the resort Covid safe. It was open for the summer, from 6 June to 30 August, then from 17 to 29 October.
These openings have allowed the resort to test its Covid measures and confirmed that they work as there were no clusters.
This week Les 2 Alpes will meet in Bourg d’Oisans with other resorts from the Oisans valley, to demonstrate and show their dissatisfaction with the government’s decision.
The government and mountain representatives will meet again on 11 December to discuss the situation and decide when the resorts can open.
