What’s new in Aosta?

The five major ski areas in the Aosta Valley have all seen upgrades this season.

In Breuil-Cervinia a new six seater ‘Gran Somett’a chairlift with protective dome has been added in Valtournenche. In Cervinia itself a new slope –Number 34 – now connects the town of Cielo Alto at the start of the Bardoney lifts, plus there is a new covered treadmill at the Cretaz pitch. Spring 2023 sees the opening of the highest cable crossing of the Alps in constant view of The Matterhorn. The Matterhorn glacier paradise cableway – Testa Grigia – will whisk passengers in comfort from Zermatt to Breuil-Cervinia. The one-hour panoramic ride travels over 4000m in altitude and  have the biggest cable car drop in Europe.

Courmayeur

Courmeyer’s snow-making system has benefitted from a six million euros investment which now sees 80% of the area covered.

La Thuile in the Espace San Bernardo region that connects La Thuile and La Rosière in Savoy has benefitted from some modernisation. In particular, the ‘Arnouvaz’ chairlift has been overhauled and the bottom of slopes 12 and 14 have been levelled. A high altitude ski mountaineering track is due to be created. The international route, using some ski lifts, will mean skiers can get to La Rosière and back. On the French side, three new information panels have been installed at the Roches Noires and Du Fort chairlifts to improve the flow of passengers. It also show the status of the runs and weather conditions updated in real time.

La Thuile

Monterosa Ski, located in the heart of the Italian Alps, at the foot of Monte Rosa, has maintained its prices for this season.

The daily skipass for the three valleys  – Champoluc-Frachey, Gressoney-La-Trinité – will range from 38 to a maximum of 60 euros. An investment of 6,630,000 for improvements to safety and maintenance has been spent on chairlifts, snowmaking plus slope and building improvements.

Pila has made significant improvements this season. Runway 16 has been refurbished and widened, plus the programmed snow-making system has been extended to Runway 15-14. Work continues on the new ‘Cima Couis 1’ cable car project at 2730m from where Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Grivola, Gran Paradiso, to name a few, can be viewed. To encourage online ski pass purchase, special rates will be applied to day and multi-day tickets. The skipass collection points have been increased  to cater for those who buy via the website but do not have a magnectic card.
